believe it or not, RJ11 will actually snap into an RJ45 jack. Now how the installer punched down the conductors is whats important.

My guess is you only require one pair for your old phones and the voice RJ45 jack has to have the appropriate pair punched down so the RJ11 plug matches the “active” conductors.

they do make adapters but like I said, your conductors may not match.
