IP phones always disconnecting.?


I have VoIP service with a handset and portable and they are both paired; both have the same MAC address, but different IPs. For example, handset is 192.168.1.100 and portable is .102.

Is this possible?

One is a handset and one is portable, but paired with the handset.
Oh yeah, it’s an Aastra 57cti with Vocalocity service.

I didn’t think it was possible for two separate devices to have the same MAC address? I thought all independent devices have their own “unique” MAC address.

If they are getting independent IP addresses, then they are functioning as independent devices, and I would assume have their own Mac’s, as far as I know.

But, to answer your question about IP phones disconnecting, we need to know more about your phones.

What make and model are these?
How is your network configured to accomodate them?
What kind of VoIP service are they connected to?
Is your router set to Port Forward VoIP ports? If not, crutial ports may be blocked preventing connection to the VoIP proxy servers…
