How do I set up my Laptop’s modem to communicate over telephone lines?

I am looking to use my laptop to send information over a phone connection to a fire alarm system control panel. When I set up a new modem, it keeps trying to connect me to an ISP. Thanks.

As long as your fire alarm system essentially acts as an ISP (i.e. able to receive incoming calls and start the client/server communication process), you shouldn’t have a problem. Do you have the documentation for setting up the fire alarm via dial up modem? There may be a setting in there that you are missing.
