How can i convert my simple DSL connection in to a VoIP phone!?
i have found that there are some technlogies available in market through which we can convert a simple DSL in to a Voip phone for international calling. I dont know exactly something known as PSTN switch is required…If you have any knowledge please inform me about it…..thanks….
Ok, voip stands for “voice over IP,” which means you send your voice over digital internet lines instead of the PSTN (traditional analog phone network). IP transmissions are a lot more efficient than PSTN, that’s why voip is so much cheaper. It won’t cost anything to make a call from your computer to another computer, but if you want to use a phone, or call a phone, you’ll need an adapter and a calling plan.
That’s because regular telephones send out your voice in analog form. To get on the IP network, you have to convert the analog information to digital packets. They automatically get turned back into analog form when they get to the phone you’re calling.
When you sign up for a voip internet phone plan, you get access to super-low international rates, because much of the call takes place on the less expensive IP network. Only the beginning and end points are on the PSTN, so that’s all you have to pay for.
You also usually get a lot of premium features for free and even unlimited calling in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. I use voip.com and pay $19.95/mo for the unlimited plan–it’s great! I can’t recommend it enough:-) When I signed up, they sent me a free adapter (the PSTN switch you were talking about), so I didn’t even have to buy any equipment. I just plugged it in like they showed and then plugged my regular phone into the adapter. That’s it. Good luck!

| | Voip User $54.86 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles VoIP User is a community driven and financed SIP based VoIP network. The projects aim is to introduce people to the concept of VoIP by allowing members to experiment with SIP and IAX2 devices. The VoIP User network was designed to operate within a community environment and therefore differs substantially from most other VoIP networks. The main highlighted difference being that users can call PSTN phone numbers through VoIP Users PSTN gateway without incurring any call charges. The way that VoIP User is funded is noteworthy: Calls into VoIP Users numbers generate a small amount of per minute revenue (the termination charge ), and this money goes into a community account or pot. | | Maids for Voip by Chita, Christian [Paperback] $164.1 Compared to traditional (PSTN) voice networks, a Voice over Internet Protocol network is a convergence of a signaling network and a data network using Internet Protocol (IP). The use of shared media by VoIP systems opens the door to some uncertainty as to the source of a call. While in the traditional voice networks one has to tap into a specific circuit to eavesdrop, in an IP network any equipment connected to the target LAN can identify, store and playback the VoIP packets that traverse that LAN. An unprotected, unauthenticated IP network makes VoIP susceptible to hostile use, such as call hijacking, connection tear down, denial of service, or sending computer viruses over the network. In this work, we perform a series of attacks against a VoIP application, and prove that they succeed with nothing more than a couple of identity tokens captured from the network traffic as prerequisites. We then design an Intrusion Detection System implementing a gradual attackresponse procedure, destined to inform and protect the EndUsers of the Application Under Test.
